Hey, I'm Adam. Welcome to SUKIYAKI.
Who am I?
I’m a developer based in Toulouse, France. What gets me going is understanding how things work and then building my own. I dabble in a lot: software in Python, Rust, C# or C, system administration through my homelab, simulation and game-engine work, and embedded stuff whenever I feel like getting my hands on hardware. Most of what I know I learned by doing. Starting side projects, breaking things, fixing them.
I also spent a year in Seoul studying Korean at Sogang University. Nothing to do with computers, but it taught me a fair bit about myself.
What I do
- Most of my time right now goes into simulation and game engines. An air-combat simulator in Godot, with a nonlinear flight model, avionics and a dynamic campaign. Alongside it, a reimplementation of SCP: Containment Breach in Rust with Bevy, custom asset loaders included. Physics and rendering are the parts I care about most.
- On the software dev side, Python day to day, Rust for fun, C# since I started working in Godot, C and Kotlin depending on the project. From command-line tooling to physics simulation, depending on what has my attention.
- Sysadmin & homelab. A self-hosted setup of around twenty services (Docker, Headscale, Authentik, and everything around them), on an old Dell Optiplex that runs 24/7. I’m in the middle of moving the whole thing to declarative NixOS. The NAS and the laptop are already there, the rest is following.
- Embedded & hardware: RPi Pico, Arduino, BLE and SPI. The next big one is converting my DRZ400S to electronic fuel injection. The architecture is worked out, nothing is machined yet.
- Web isn’t my main field, but I know my way around it. Vue and Svelte on the front end, FastAPI or ASP.NET Core on the back, Astro for this site.
SUKIYAKI
In high school, my closest friends and I were into 90s Japanese cars and the anime Initial D. Since we all lived near Pechdavid in Toulouse (a spot with a small winding road), we called ourselves the “Pechdavid Speedstars”, after the anime’s Akina Speedstars.
At university the group grew. Not everyone was into cars any more, and plenty of us had moved away from Pechdavid. We changed the name to SUKIYAKI: Japanese, because we all love anime and Japanese culture, and because sukiyaki is a dish you eat together out of the same pot. That fit the spirit of the group.
Today I’m the last founding member still active, and SUKIYAKI has become my label for everything I do seriously.
